Easy Homemade Lemonade

I know, making lemonade isn't rocket science, but for some reason the only kind I grew up with was the powdered stuff you'd find in a canister. Buying lemon juice pre-squeezed is convenient, but if you've tasted it... that preservative laden stuff is kind of gross.

Squeezing fresh lemons is really the only way to go. How do I overcome the hassle of having to squeeze all those lemons? I get my kids involved. As the saying goes, "Many hands make light work."

This lemonade recipe uses a simple syrup. By dissolving the sugar in warm water, it takes much less time than stirring the sugar in cold water trying to get it to dissolve.

Making lemonade is as easy as remembering 1-1-1-3. So get your kids and get squeezing!

Easy Homemade Lemonade
((Printable Recipe))

1 cup sugar
1 cup water
1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
3 cups additional water
ice to serve

1. In a small sauce pan, make a simple syrup by dissolving the sugar in the 1 cup of water until it just begins to simmer and all the sugar is dissolved.

2. Add the lemon juice, simple syrup, and 3 additional cups of cold water to a pitcher. (I like to keep mine in a glass jar.)

3. Stir. Pour over ice. Enjoy.

(You may add an additional cup of water if this is too strong for you.)

  1. AS a lover of strong citrus, I have to wonder - what are the 3 extra cups of water for?
