(Not Quite Wordless) Wednesday: Butterfly Confession

I captured these images on a recent fall hike.
All I have to say is, thank goodness for a good zoom lens.

I felt like it was time to come clean with something...

Butterflies

freak

me

  out.

I know I'm crazy.

People get beautiful butterfly tattoos permanently placed on their bodies.

Other brave souls go into enclosed butterfly conservatories and gardens. To me, this is the thing horror films are made of.

I'm not sure what it is that bothers me about butterflies.

Perhaps it's the fact that they lure you in with their beautiful wings, but when you get a good close look at their bodies and long antenna,  ((shudder)) they are downright creepy.

I know I'm being irrational, especially when creatures like this exist...

But for now my silly phobia and I will continue hiding behind a zoom lens and enjoying these beautiful (hideous) creatures from afar.

  3. Beautiful shots! And yes, kind of weird that butterflies give you the creeps, but whatever. We all have our "things". :)

  6. Beautiful shot of the butterfly! I don't mind butterflies personally, it's moths that totally freak me out!

Love the other shot too, is that a mantis? My husband hates bugs and when he was downtown in Chicago earlier this week for school he said he was walking, looked down and one of those was crawling up his shirt. Needless to say he completely freaked out and embarrassed himself in the middle of the street :)

Thanks again for taking part in the Shades of Autumn Photo Challenge, I'm really looking forward to seeing what you come up with next time for the colour red!

  10. I feel bad about this, but I just had to giggle. I love that you're honest about your phobia though. And hey! That's what zoom lenses are made for! I used them on other creepy crawly critters myself! Great shot, by the way. :)
Thanks for joining us in the Shades of Autumn Photo Challenge. I'm so excited about next week's theme: RED! Have a great weekend.

  11. Your butterfly shot is gorgeous! He's so pretty against the background of tiny wildflowers. I finally saw a monarch today, but I couldn't get close because he was fluttering around over a pond.

  12. Fabulous captures. That color in the butterfly is striking. And I couldn't agree more about that last critter. My son caught 2 of them yesterday and one was eating the other. Yes, gross.
