The other day my 'Little J' asked me, "Mommy, what's a Twinkie?"
I wasn't sure how to answer her.
In the news recently was a man who lost weight on a so-called 'Twinkie Diet'.
Yes, you can lose weight eating only Twinkies.
You can also lose weight by only snorting cocaine.
You can also lose weight eating only peanuts......
or eating grapefruits....
or drinking Slim Fast...
or taking hunger suppression pills....
I think you get my point.
Less calorie intake = weight loss. Even if what you're putting in your body is garbage.
Is weight loss always a measure of good health?
does our society really need more reasons to justify bad behavior?
Yes I'm a hypocrite- I eat my fair share of garbage. (albeit small)
I'm ALL FOR moderation.
But when the majority of what we put into our bodies during any given day are "foods" that should be eaten in moderation- what's the point?
I use the word "food" lightly since a great deal of what we eat is pretty far removed from even being called food. Unless you consider mono and diglycerides, hydrogenated oil, cellulose gum and petroleum derived molecules food.
Seems more like a chemistry experiment to me.
Although I will admit, it never ceases to amaze me how they can make the 'chemistry experiment' called 'food' taste SO stinkin' good!
Sorry, I digress.... back to my rant....
If eating junk food and processed foods was the key to good health, America would be one of the healthiest nations.
Obviously, that is not the case.
Was me comparing Twinkies to cocaine a bit extreme?
Obviously. But new research is showing that junk food is just as addictive as drugs. Read more here.
Here is a beautiful photograph taken by artist Dwight Eschliman of a Twinkie's 37 ingredients.
