Toilet Bowls and Boredom

All good things must come to an end.... including Christmas break.

I can't wait to send my kids back to school.

Granted school is in our house....

.... and I am their teacher.

But getting back to a routine will be good for all of us.

I am happy to say, that for as much time as we've taken off (more than we ever have before) no one has uttered the two words I can't stand...

I'M BORED.

As some of you know, if you say those two words in our house, this is what you end up doing:

My son learned this lesson once a few years ago.

One day he came up to me and said it:

Well, I sent him to work right away on the toilet.

When he was finished scrubbing, he said it again.

Off to clean toilet #2.

And then he said it again.

Toilet #3 was cleaned that day as well.  (Now at this point I was out of toilets to clean, lucky for me there is always something that needs to be cleaned in my house.)

Thankfully, the next words out of his mouth were,

"Mom, I think I'm going to go read a book."

Our kids probably watch an hour of TV a week.  They have a certain amount of video game "minutes" reserved for the weekend.

Call me crazy- I'm fine with that...

....but this is what works for our family.

The toilet bowl cleaning 'incident' was the first and last time those words were every spoken.

Our kids entertain themselves, and I am grateful for this.

As for you adults out there who say you are bored- do as Britney Spears does...

... go read a book.

Wait, perhaps she's a bad example......
